![]() ![]() Mike Haugland, Director of Children’s Ministry at Cypress Church, has seen many kids come through the Awana and Amazing Journeys, children from all sorts of backgrounds. The Amazing Journeys program consists of four parts: game time, small group time, big group time and Bible reading (homework). This year, teaching and equipping children to spend time in God’s Word will be the focus. The children enjoy Bible teaching, worship, award presentations and games.įor children who are in 3rd through 6th grade, Cypress Church offers a program called *Amazing Journeys* (a separate curriculum from Awana). *Sparks* club meeting (for children Kindergarten through 2nd grade) combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of excitement for kids. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform this preschool program into a lively experience where fun and learning go hand in hand. As a chapter of Awana Clubs International, its goal is to build children into men and women who are well-balanced spiritually, mentally, physically and socially.Īwana *Cubbies* club for preschoolers is built on the premise that very young children can and should receive spiritual training. Children from Cypress, Buena Park and neighboring cities 3 years old through 2nd grade are welcome. and will meet on a weekly basis through June. Cypress Church’s Awana will be starting up again on Wednesday, September 15th at 6:45 p.m. churches have Awana programs and they can be found in all 50 states. *It was the first place we could leave him by himself and he wouldn’t cry,* Abril says. He embraced the program from the first night, enjoying the time spent with his friends and Small Group Leader. Three years later, Baruch is excited about starting his third year of Awana. Weeks went by and with a little more encouragement from her new friend, Abril knew sending Baruch to a place where he could make new friends and learn about God would be a good thing. ![]() She practically guaranteed Baruch would love it even though he was on the shy side. The woman who invited them, someone Abril met in a local park, encouraged Abril to give it a try. Sports has been a powerful way to reach out to people in the community who might not otherwise come to the church, he said. “So it’s a pretty incredible day, and we’re having a good time.” That way they not only hear a clear presentation of the gospel once but “also hear stories of the gospel and how Jesus has impacted others’ lives,” Cooper said. “Every kid has a chance to hear the gospel at least once and a Bible study, but we also have incredible volunteers at every sport who are sharing their testimonies, who are praying with kids,” he said. ![]() They also go to one station where Cooper shares a Bible study and the gospel. The sports camp was the third one the church has hosted, and Cooper said they’ve been “really impactful.”ĭuring the camp, children from pre-K through sixth grade and students in grades 7–12 move around different stations and play soccer, basketball, gaga ball and street hockey. “So we’re trying to make an identity for this church through the gospel and through our sports camp, just inviting the community to hear about the gospel and hear the Word, but also to know that we exist for the community.” ‘Impactful’ camp “Our church was not on the map,” he said. He said when he first got to Cypress and started meeting people in the neighborhood like Loera, many said, “Oh, there’s a church here?” She registered children as they arrived and said she was “so excited” to see the response of the neighborhood.Ĭooper said events like the sports camp show the community the church is there and ready to serve. He served as a volunteer at the sports camp the church held June 11 as part of Crossover, a series of evangelistic events leading up to the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting in Anaheim. She convinced him to join her, and when he did, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and became active in the church. We loved it right away.”įinding that loving neighborhood church also made all the difference in the life of her 94-year-old father, Louie Perez. “It was such a loving and intimate church. “I just live right around the corner from the church, and my husband likes small churches, so we decided to try it out,” Loera said.
